They say you never really understand what it’s like to be someone else until you’ve walked a mile in their shoes. If that is the case then I choose Maria Sharapova and I’ll be damned if I won’t keep her shoes too.
In 2009 Miss Sharapova, the Russian tennis superstar, teamed up Nike and Cole Haan to create a cute and comfortable shoe collection aptly titled the Maria Sharapova Collection.
Since we’re on the topic, I thought it would be fun to mention that Cole Haan is a fully owned subsidiary of the NIKE Corporation which obviously explains the NIKE AIR technology featured in the shoes.
The Cole Haan brand was bought as a way for Nike to diversify into another mainstream area of footwear but it seems that as of May this year, Nike is looking to pare down and Cole Haan will be back on its own. That being said, stock up ladies because that comfort technology is a godsend for your feet!
Back to business.
Sharapova’s collection features boots, heels, sandals and flats. The Cole Haan Air Bacara Ballet is one of her two featured flats, and this adorable round-toed 6oz. flat has 10 different upper options.
I know you know how much I love me a shoe with options, but get this; it’s not just colour options, there are also material options! From leather and patent to suede and haircalf you’ll have some serious head scratching to do when it comes to picking which shoe!
What I Love
I’m a big supporter of detailing. The Cole Haan Air Bacara Ballet has the cutest laced heel detail that adds a little extra to an otherwise classic flat.
Since I don’t like slipping and falling on my ass, I’m also a big fan of the sturdy rubber sole. Not only is it extra padded for your comfort but acts as a non-slip grip for those less than favorable weather conditions.
It would be silly for me to not mention my undying love for NIKE AIR comfort technology. Air bagged to perfection, you could literally walk for miles in these comfy, and cute, little shoes!
What I Loathe
Why do people hate wide feet so much? It can’t possibly be just me! This flat runs a little narrow around the toes making wider feet folk, like myself, a little uncomfortable. Thank heavens I’ve got a killer DIY on How To Stretch Your Shoes, but it would be nice to have them fit right off the get-go.
But there I go again, ranting about my wide feet.
In addition to that, choosing and fashionably wearing patent leather can be a bit of a gamble sometimes. Patent leather can look cheap if it’s poor quality, and on top of that, it can scuff. The Cole Haan Bacara Ballet is no exception to this. Many Footies (that’s right, if you can be a “Foodie,” I can be a “Footie”) found that the black patent scuffed, leaving it with blue-shaded marks.
And after one too many scuffs, the shoe is going to look trashy instead of classy. Maybe all these ladies needed was a good Homemade Shoe Polish! Yeah that’s right, this Footie has got you covered there as well.
You’re welcome.
Work It Girl
Perfect for dresses, skirts and pants you can pair this flat with practically anything.
Since metallic-toned shoes are big this season, pair the Silver Metallic Bacara Ballets with a pair of boyfriend-cut jeans, a simple tee and a fitted sweater. The trendy tone of the shoe will give you all the sass you need to make this outfit pop!
Want to go a little cutesier? Pick one of the more colourful options (like, Creek Patent) and wear them with an oversized polo shirt with a skirt, blazer and oversized handbag, just like Maria is rockin’.
If you’re really digging this Fall’s bold print trend, you may want to take a look at the Nine West Taker instead. It may not have a round toe, but it’s definitely got the daring designs!
So there you have it Footies; a flat fit for a tennis star. Let me know in the comment section if you think this flat is worth telling the rest of the country club about.
